What Happens After Shockwave Therapy: The Recovery Process

Shockwave therapy is a treatment that is used to help treat a variety of medical conditions. This therapy uses sound waves to help stimulate the healing process. While shockwave therapy is often very effective, it is important to understand what happens after the treatment in order to make sure you are recovering properly.

 

After shockwave therapy, it is important to keep the area that was treated clean and dry. You may also be instructed to use a special dressing or bandage. It is important to follow all of your doctor’s instructions carefully.

You will likely need to take it easy for the first few days after shockwave therapy. You should avoid strenuous activity and give your body time to heal. However, you should still be able to move around and do light activities.

As you recover, you may notice some bruising, swelling, or soreness in the treated area. This is normal and will eventually go away. If you have any pain, your doctor may prescribe medication to help.

What to do if the pain won’t stop after shockwave therapy?

If you’re undergoing shockwave therapy and the pain doesn’t seem to be subsiding, there are a few things you can do. 

First, make sure you’re keeping up with your home exercises. It’s important to stay active and keep the affected area mobile. 

Some at home exercises you should try:

– Ankle pumps: sit with your legs extended in front of you and move your ankles up and down

– Heel slides: sit with your legs extended in front of you and slide your heels back and forth

– Toe raises: stand on your toes and raise your heels off the ground

Secondly, there are a few things you can do to ease the pain. One is to try heat or ice. Heat can be soothing, and since it dilates blood vessels, it can also help reduce inflammation. Just be careful not to overdo it, or you could end up with a would. Ice can Work wonders for pain relief by numbing the area and reducing inflammation.

Finally, if the pain is really severe, over-the-counter pain medication may help. Be sure to talk to your doctor about any medications you’re taking, as some can interfere with the therapy.
